After more than a year of underground (literally, part of their home is a cellar) parties in the Midlands, Face push on in style through the festive season with another selection of on-point house and techno guests ready to lay down the sort of voguish soundtracks not heard elsewhere in the city.

First up in December is an Azari Records label party headlined by Lojack and backed up by Face residents Elliot Croft and Scott Bleepz.

Azari Records is a Derby based imprint which releases deep, minimal, techno, tech – it doesn’t matter, as long as it’s good quality underground house music riddled with groove. That’s the philosophy behind Azari Records and the reason it was formed.

The label supports fresh talent from all over Europe and will no doubt provide a super engaging soundtrack for the hungry heads down at Face this December.

MARC ROBERTS (Fabric)…

Being taught to beat mix acid house in a ski resort in late 1988, has had numerous repercussions for Marc Roberts. Despite stints on pipelines in India, as book keeper for a failing sausage restaurant in the West End and working for monsters of rock Iron Maiden, he’s never been far away from a DJ booth over the last 20 years.

Those 20 years of musical indulgence, have ensured an eclectic approach to dancefloor rabble rousing. Various escapades have ensued – including a car load of vinyl melting in the baking heat of the south of France, and having to play dub mixes of every record at +8, after being mistakenly booked for a techno event in Spain. He’s played on crutches at Bugged Out! (until someone drunkenly stole them) DJ’d in an igloo at 7000 feet, and fallen off the back of a lorry mid set at the Rotterdam Street Parade.

Avoiding the standard DJ route of making music, has been responsible for award winning line ups for an assortment of club events and festivals across the UK and beyond including Alpine behemoth, Snowbombing.

It’s Halloween so there’s even more excuse to party like there’s no tomorrow! As such Face have invited house legend Emerson Todd to play for them on October 30th…
Emerson Todd is a big name in Australia where he cut his teeth as resident in some of the country’s finest clubs. Todd also has had plenty of studio experience, both as a part of House of Downtown with Christiaan Ercolano, and also as an engineer. However, he’s only been producing on his own over the past couple of years, with his first solo EP coming out on Darren Emerson’s Underwater label back in 2006. Since then he’s released on Cocoon, Get Physical, Upon You Records, as well as remixing huge artists like Layo & Bushwacka, Mendo, D. Ramirez.
Now living in Berlin, he can be found playing in the world’s coolest clubs every weekend, his unique style of jacking wonky house music will absolutely rock the dancefloor, that’s for sure.

With the 1st birthday now but a fond memory, it’s back to business for Face, with Mobilee talent Sebo K headlining.

Anja Schneider’s Berlin imprint Mobilee is five years old this year and at its creative core is Sebo K. He has a deep, emotive take on house and tech which works its way under your skin without you even noticing and recently mixed a compilation for the hallowed Watergate series – a mix which took in all manner of house from deep and vocal to retro tinged and garage via bouncing and stripped back. It was lovely stuff and something he will no doubt replicate in the underground cellar that is, erm, the Cellar.

Originality, groove and creativity are the driving forces of his sets, which he has been crafting out in various clubs around Birmingham including the brand new venue Cellar Door. His original sound and love for house & techno music has placed him playing alongside, Alex Niggeman, Pezzner, Phil Weeks, Reboot, Nick Curly, Riva starr, Harry Choo choo romero, Evans, Waterfall as well as being set to play at the only Cadenza party in London 2010.

The passion Ernest has for the music is manifested in his house and techno mixes often stretching up to four hours long, mixed live with plenty of looping on the fly, cutting, edited versions of tracks and an old school style of mixing which is often lost in the digital revolution.

With Ernest set to play alongside one of his biggest influences this appearance is set to be a special and memorable one for this hardworking dj.

To help celebrate the momentous occasion that is the Face first birthday, we welcome back a suitably big star… Wolf & Lamb and Crosstown Rebels man, Jamie Jones.
It’s clear that Jamie Jones knows what he’s doing. After the stylish minimal anthem that was ‘Amazon’, instead of riding on the wave of hype which followed, he bided his time and re-unleashed himself on the world with his 80s electro influenced long player Don’t You Remember the Future last year. It was a fine effort which stood out from the crowd for all the right reasons, and now his disco flecked, groovy house sound is finding favour with people from DC10 to Fabric to the Warehouse Project.
What’s more, his own label Hot Creations with Lee Foss is going from strength to strength and is getting played on every clued-up house loving dance floors the world over.

After graduating top of the class at Technics DJ Mix school in JHB,South Africa 2001, Obie moved to Eastbourne / Brighton. Defiantly playing a Tech & Deep House set for a Mass Recordings Electro night set him apart from the rest of the line up and also earned him a gig at Ministry Of Sound with Chicaboom. He is currently a resident dj at The Penthouse in London.

Obie is currently waiting for his debut EP ‘tribute 2 Amos’ to be signed to phobicrecords.co.uk which is a 3 track ep with remix from the man of the moment ‘evren ulusoy’.
